How Did I Become A Boudoir Photographer?
How Did I Become A Boudoir Photographer?
I actually get asked this question A LOT.
Growing up, I always had a big interest in photography and other creative hobbies, but that’s all I ever thought they could be - hobbies. When I graduated high school I had one photography class under my belt, and I thought I wanted to be an elementary teacher. I went to the Shippensburg University for Education k-4 and computer science. I bounced around between majors (Math, secondary ed, a dabble in History) before I came to the conclusion that I STILL had no idea what I wanted to do. Turns out, my interest in the academic-y stuff was limited, but my interest in creating was infinite. So I transferred back to my hometown and started taking classes at Bucks Community College for Small Business/Entrepreneurship & Marketing. While I was in college living with roommates, I had several friends ask me to take 'sexy pics' of them for their boyfriends for holidays, and I happily obliged not really knowing what the hell I was doing (samples below).
I started my photography business while I was in college, but at that time it was more of a hobby. After my husband and I got married in 2017 I dove into classes, workshops and learned more about photography and put my Business class information to use. I ran a successful wedding and family portrait business for 3 years.
I had no intention of ever getting into the Boudoir niche until I had a previous employer reach out about wanting to do a boudoir shoot while going through a messy divorce and needing some healing, so of course I happily obliged.
I started up our Facebook group and a set up a one-day Boudie Babe session marathon. I instantly fell in love with the idea of boudoir photography and empowering women. Before I knew it my wedding and family portrait clients were begging me for sessions too. I found my niche and I never looked back since.
Here I am, one year later with an entire team of women working with me to spread my dream and vision. I always dreamed my photography career would work out, but never did I imagine it would be like this!
I am definitely a very lucky girl, and I am so grateful for every single one of you.
XOXO,
Sarah
